This page defines roles and what they may do.
Roles & permissions
A role is a set of permissions. Tick a box to let a role do something, untick it to take it away — the change takes effect the moment you tick it, on every account that holds the role. Permissions are the fixed set of things the platform knows how to check; a role is any combination of them, and you can add as many roles as the work needs.
Built-in roles cannot be deleted, and the Administrator must always keep Manage accounts & roles — otherwise the platform could remove its own last way back in.
What each permission means
Add a role
A new role starts able to do nothing. Create it here, then tick its permissions above. The code is how the platform names the role and cannot be changed later.
